Annual General Meeting

 Please join us at the Annual General Meeting of the
Lake Ontario Catalina Association,
being held at the Toronto International Boat Show on
Saturday, January 13^th, 2018.

Enercare Centre, Exhibition Place, Room C2, 11:00 am

And spend the day at the Toronto International Boat Show.

Your paid membership includes two tickets to the 2018 Toronto International Boat show, courtesy of Swans Yacht Sales, so renew your membership today. (SEE MEMBERSHIP FORM ON THE MAIN PAGE!)

You can access Room C2 from the main hallway and pick up your tickets for the show at the meeting.

This year, our guest speaker will be Jan Ploeger, the new owner of Swans Yacht Sales. Learn about Jan and what he has planned for Swan Yacht Sales in its second 40 years.

Support Your Association

It’s only by the support of its members that the Lake Ontario Catalina Association can continue to thrive.

We need members to volunteer for the executive to contribute to the success of our sailing activities throughout the year. Please consider volunteering some of your time and joining a committee. It’s not a big commitment of time, but it adds to the enjoyment and camaraderie of being a member of LOCA.

We will announce shortly which positions are vacant, but nominations for all executive positions are welcome. We welcome old and new member nominations for these important positions.

2018 LOCA Events

LOCA is planning to hold the usual events in the summer of 2018. Hopefully, the unusual weather conditions of 2017 were a one-off event and we won’t be forced to repeat the unfortunate cancellation of our Rendezvous.  Here are the proposed dates of our two main events:

The Sail/Drive-In event will be on Saturday, May 26

The Rendezvous will be the weekend of August 17-19

Our Rendezvous this year.

Dear LOCA Members,

Due to the high water levels and the unprecedented disruptions at many marinas and yacht clubs around the lake the LOCA executive has decided to cancel our August Rendezvous this year.

Many thanks to Cathedral Bluffs Yacht Club “CBYC” for their consideration in spite of the difficult circumstances at their facility. We wish them all the best as they continue to recover from the impact of the high water levels.

We are planning a fun and exciting post haulout land-based event for the fall! Details with be posted on the LOCA website when plans are finalized so please stay tuned!

Also, please note that our AGM will be held at the Toronto Boat Show on Saturday January 13, 2018. Details will be posted on our website when they become available.

Summer on Lake Ontario.

Well hello all.

This has been a slow year for us on Lake Ontario. Also for the LOCA group. We are still working on the end of season meetup. As of this time it is still in the air.

I really did not have a lot new to post.  There is Catalina facebook group. There are association websites. But we really do not have anything for Lake Ontario owners specifically. It would be nice if we could keep it going.

Its a great place to post if you are heading out somewhere.. maybe someone would meet up. If you were interested. But we have to know.

Anyway. That’s all for now. I hope you are at least able to get out and enjoy your boat.

I think forums are a great way to talk, organize, ask for help, any type of communication that is sailing or C30 related.

Introduction

Hello fellow members of LOCA.

I wanted to introduce myself to those who I might not have met at the AGM. I am a new member to the group. James Schofield. I am also now the Vice Commodore of Communications and membership.

I will be trying hard this coming year to come up with ideas of boosting membership, and making your membership in LOCA more enjoyable and valuable. Because we all want to feel we are getting value out of our association.

To start I would like to introduce a new forum we have available. Go to www.docksidechandlery.com/loca_forum  and take a look. Please join up.. and stay tuned there as that is a more interactive way to stay involved with the group. News, discussions, polls etc can be handled there much more easily than on this blog.

I hope to meet everyone. Continue to send to the addresses you have, I now will be the one to handle and respond to correspondence to the group.
