Wow! What a great event at Swans Marina. Congratulations to both Bernie and Jeanie on the 40th anniversary of Swans. Twenty-two Catalinas from small to very large sailed in for the event. Guests arrived to a corn and wiener roast under the tent on Friday. Saturday was a great day for checking out the village, testing the waters of Lake Ontario and socializing on the dock before dinner and dancing.
First, a thanks to Jeanie and Bernie for hosting such a memorable event. Next, a special note of thanks to all our executive for bringing it all together, Vice Commodore Debby Wilson, Treasurer Ron Hosking, Social Director Kathy Roe, Jacques Michaud, Rene Albers and Past Commodore Fred Rahm. A special note of thanks to the members who also stepped in to help, Marlyne and Wayne Parker.
And lastly, a special note of thanks to Ron Hosking and Swan’s Sailing School for treating us all to a lovely breakfast Sunday morning. It was a great last get together before we set out for our home ports.
2016 Ontario Sailing’s Legends of Sailing Award.
This award is intended to “Honour the past and inspire the future”, recognizing individuals who have made significant (>10 years) contributions that inspire recreational and/or competitive sailing in Canada. In collaboration with Jeanie and Bernie’s daughter and son, your executive participated in the nomination of our very own Bernie and Jeanie. Carol Luttmer just recently announced Bernie and Jean are recipients of the award for facilitating recreational and competitive sailing as owners and operators of Swans Marina and Swans Yacht Sales for over 40 years.
The award will be presented at the 2016 Celebration of Sailing “Country Western Extravaganza” on Saturday September 24th at Lakeshore Yacht Club in Etobicoke. All proceeds from the event go towards the development of sailing in Ontario. If you would like to join in the celebration, tickets for the event and information on the award are available here: http://ontariosailing.ca/about/events/celebration-of-sailing/ For any LOCA members who would like to attend, please contact Ron Hosking email@example.com and he will try to arrange a table or two.
New Catalina on Lake Ontario. Swans has just taken delivery of the new Catalina 425, which was available for viewing at the Rendezvous as well as at the Port Credit boat show the following weekend. I am sure Swans can provide a picture of it as well. I hope we all get to check it out at the boat show.
An update to your executive; Debby Wilson and Kathy Roe will be switching rolls. They will both be working together on Membership and Kathy will become the Vice Commodore of Membership and Debby takes on the role of Vice Commodore of Events.
